Howard Lyons


Howard started his career in healthcare management in the British National Health Service becoming Chief Executive of a Central London Teaching Hospital in the 1980s. He then left the NHS to work internationally in management and consultancy in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Far East for clients such as the World Bank, UN, EU and African Development Bank as well as national government agencies, private and university hospitals and commercial organisations in over 70 countries. He has been Managing Director of a large hospital management company and Partner in a leading management consultancy firm. In 2012, he was appointed to be the first Managing Director of Healthcare UK which was established by the British Government to enable public and private sector organisations to share their expertise in healthcare in countries such as China, India, Brazil and the Middle East. He retired in 2016 and was made Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours for services to healthcare management. Howard is currently Treasurer of ICMDA and has been on the Board since 2018.
